THE line-up for the next event in the hugely-popular Prizefighter Series has been announced.
Prizefighter – Middleweights 1 will be held at the York Hall, Bethnal Green, London on Saturday, November 22 including three unbeaten bright young prospects.
This will be the fourth Prizefighter tournament and comes after the success of two heavyweight shows – won by Martin Rogan and Sam Sexton – and last week’s welterweights contest, where Michael Lomax triumphed.
Matchroom Sport Chairman Barry Hearn is expecting another night full of drama, knockdowns and thrilling bouts.
“With a packed York Hall and ticket touts outside for the welterweights, The Prizefighter Series seems to have really arrived,” said Hearn.
“Once again no one left their seats throughout the entire card and once again the favourite didn’t win. The joy of Prizefighter is that no one knows the result before the fights begin and it’s all about the slogan ‘no guts, no glory’.
“As an entertaining boxing promotion, Prizefighter clearly has no equal and plans are now afoot to licence the format worldwide.
“All eyes are now turned on to Prizefighter Middleweights at the York Hall on November 22 where it will be part of the Sky pay-per-view build up to the Ricky Hatton show from Las Vegas – a huge compliment itself to the Prizefighter Series.
“As a boxing fan each Prizefighter evening is a must and an unmissable event. I’ve enjoyed the first three and can’t wait for November 22.
“Value for money for fight fans, brilliant armchair entertainment for home fans and most importantly of all the opportunity for boxers who are prepared to give 100 per cent to make their name and get some hard earned cash – everyone’s a winner.”
Four quarter-finals, two semi-finals and the final will all take place in one action-packed evening of boxing with each contest lasting a maximum of three rounds.
Bristol’s Danny Butler is the youngest in the event at only 20 years old but has built up an impressive reputation with 13 victories since turning professional in 2006.
Other unbeaten fighters are Martin Murray (Manchester, nine fights) and Joe Rea (Ballymena, Northern Ireland, eight fights) but only one man will be left standing.
As usual, there are a number of heavy punchers with Steve Ede (Gosport, Hampshire) and Cello Renda (Peterborough) among the eight, while Newport’s Paul Samuels has fought for the IBO Light-Middleweight Championship.
Two fighters from the original line-up George Katsimpas (bad cut in sparring) and Craig Denton (cracked rib) have had to withdraw and their places have been taken by Max Maxwell (Birmingham) and Danny Thornton (Leeds).
Tickets are on sale from 01277 359900 and are priced at £30 (unreserved floor), £40 (unreserved balcony) and £75 (reserved ringside).
The boxing will start at 9pm on November 22 and the action will be screened on Sky Box Office as part of the Ricky Hatton v Paul Malignaggi package.
